Ton Koopman has been awarded the Medal of Honor at the Granada Festival in Spain. Ton was Artist in Residence of the festival during the June 2023 edition.
He gave several concerts during the festival: Bach's St. John Passion with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir, Bach's Musikalisches Opfer with soloists from the orchestra and the children's concert Caecilia with daughter Marieke Koopman. He also gave an organ recital and a master class for organ students.
Ton received this special award for his commitment to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, but also for his interpretations of works by other composers and his many years of dedication to the Granada Festival.
